What’s up y’all! Now we are to the music I listened to growing up! These songs are so fun for me to listen to. The song I picked this week is Thrift Shop by Mackelmore and Lewis.  I love this song; I have learned all of the words because it is such a fun song to sing too and rap with. It is a great song to listen to driving in the car with all your friends and you all just start belting this song and having a blast just jamming out and being crazy! This is also such a fun song when DJ’s turn it on at dances and everyone just goes crazy! This song isn’t necessarily the best song, meaning there is some language that kids shouldn’t listen to so if that’s your purpose find the clean version. Mackelmore has a lot of other fun songs like Can’t Hold Us which is great for dances because everyone puts their hands in the air and have a heck of a good time. Mackelmore is a great artist and does a really good job of keeping you entertained during the whole song which makes him and even better artist in my eyes.

What’s up!! This week I did my blog on Redneck Woman by Gretchen Wilson. I love this song I know all of the words and sing along so loud every time it plays. I listen to a lot of Gretchen Wilson I think she is a great artist and has a very country sound to her music which I think is great. Especially because right now there are a lot of artists that have become less and less country, which is fine, but it is nice to have what we think of as country music, with some twang what makes people country. I think she does a really good job at making this song visual everything she talks about in this song you can totally picture, and it makes you smile because it definitely reminds you of a redneck. Besides the words this song has such a great beat to it, it is such a fun song there is never a part in this song that isn’t interesting in some way. If you couldn’t tell this is definitely more my style of music, I listen to all genres of music, but country is my go to, you can never go wrong with it.

 

What’s up!! This week I decided to do my blog on What’s Love Got To Do With It by Tina Turner. I decided to do this song because I think she is such an interesting female vocalist. I also think this song in general is very interesting, because at first, she talks about his touch and makes it seem like this is a sweet love song, but then she goes on to explain there’s no love, it is just physical, and she uses the word “logical”. I think any relationship is illogical, they always happen at the most inconvenient times, or something makes it difficult for you two to be together. So, I think it is funny that she talks about it being logical and not being in love because then I really don’t see a point in having the relationship. She also uses the line “who needs a heart when a heart can be broken.” I think the reason she is saying what does love have to do with it is because she is afraid of getting hurt, she doesn’t want her heart broken like it probably was in the past. I think this song is really good and is kind of fun for what the message is, I guess.

                         

Hey!! I decided to do my blog on I shot the Sheriff, but I did the version by Bob Marley, I did listen to both versions, however. I liked both versions I think they are both good, I really like Bob Marley’s voice though I think it is kind of soothing which is why I picked his version rather than Eric Clapton’s. Eric Clapton’s version or cover of this song, however, I feel is more upbeat and more modern to king of what we listen to now. This song along with all of Bob Marley’s song I feel like just have a good bouncy beat that make it easy to nod your head along with. As for the meaning of this song, for my interpretation I feel like he could be saying, “yeah I did this one thing, but I didn’t do the one you are accusing me of.” From the line “I shot the sheriff, but I didn’t shoot the deputy” according to the Wailers it is people are judging you and you can’t stand it anymore. So, I feel like I was not too far off from what they were hoping to get across. Overall, I think it’s a pretty good song, both versions.

                                         

Hey y’all!! This week I decided to do my blog on “Superstition” by Stevie wonder. We all know this song it is such a classic! This song just has the most fun best kind of vibe that makes you want to bob your head. I also think of walking while listening to this song and just walking on beat and jamming out. This song just makes you want to grab your buddies and walk down like the strip in Vegas to this song, lots of lights, and just feeling like you are way cooler than everyone else there. The meaning behind this song is that when you believe in stupid bad superstitions such as the number 13 or a black cat “then you suffer” because we do not understand what it is that you are believing, “Superstition ain’t the way’. In the chorus he is talking about how a good superstition that helps you live a good life and a life you want then go ahead and believe those superstitions but be careful of the superstitions you believe. Because some of those superstitions can cause harm to you or others and they could keep you from living your best life then you should rethink your choices.

Hey!! So, this week I did my blog on “respect” by Aretha franklin. I picked this song because we all know it and its super upbeat and fun! I also picked this song because I really like the feel of this song, it is just upbeat and exciting. There isn’t a part in this song that you aren’t wanting to tap your foot or sing along. She does a really good job of keeping you engaged in the song and wanting it to keep going. The music in this song apart from the lyrics is so exciting and just fits so well, the music and the lyrics complement each other so nicely. I think the saxophone is such a nice addition to this song and the little saxophone solo in between the lyrics is different but really suits the song. This song also makes me laugh, because when you first listen to this song you don’t pay a whole ton of attention to the words besides respect, so you think she is just talking about respects until you listen to the song a couple times then you realize what she is really talking about. Overall, I think this song is really good and brings some light to people’s lives.

                            

Hey, this week I picked “Good Vibrations” by the beach boys! I grew up listening to the Beach Boys along with other people like Simon and Garfunkel or Billy Joel. My dad loved both of them so I listened to them when we would be driving places while I was growing up. So, I am super familiar with all of them especially the Beach Boys! This totally brings me back to my childhood when I listen to it, and it just makes me happy thinking about all those time driving in the car with my dad to random places. I think this song has kind of a different feel to it. One moment its loud happy and in a major key, but the next its quiet and in a minor key. I think it is interesting because of this, it is not like many other songs with the feel. The start of this song could make you feel like it’s a sad song and then all the sudden “I’m picking up good vibrations” and sure enough the song does pick up good vibrations. I think that’s one of the coolest parts of this song is that they totally go with the words and the beat.

                    

This week I decided to do my blog on “Sh-Boom” by the Chords. I think this song is so fun, it’s just so upbeat and exciting. This song puts you in such a good mood and makes me want to watch cars of course! It makes me want to go drive down a really well-lit street with people I care about and just have fun laughing and talking listening to this song as we drive down main street. I think the lyrics of this song are so sweet, he is saying life could be a dream with you, if I could do things with you and spend my life with you. I think he really likes this girl and wants to be her boyfriend and what better than to be writing this on Valentine’s Day. I don’t feel like this song is really fitting for a Valentine’s Day drive however it is still a really sweet song about a cute couple. This song is the feel of a happy sunny day turned into a pretty night with the hopes of a fun adventure. My favorite thing about this song is that there is so much character to it, there’s never a dull moment just like how the adventure should be.

                 

Hey!! This week I picked “Taking a chance on love” by Benny Goodman! I really like this song!! I think this song has such a good upbeat feel to it making it easy to sing along and want to dance. I have been listening to this song on repeat because I like jazz and especially this song. I love the words trying to get people to see maybe it’s not such a bad thing to love someone and try a relationship. I think the words are so good because there are so many people who are afraid of relationships and think that they’re not worth it. My favorite part is how it just puts you in such a smiley and happy mood. But my favorite line is “We’ll have our happy ending now, taking a chance on love” because you never know if it will work if you don’t give it a shot. Another line in the song goes “I’m gonna give my all again, taking a chance on love” the way Benny Goodman describes the story of a woman or a man afraid of a relationship finally being able to love again and be okay with a relationship I this is amazing.

                                       

Hey all!! The song I picked this week was “Deed I Do” song by Ruth Etting. I picked this song because it is very upbeat and happy. This song is so sweet for a cute couple to listen to and know that they each need each other and love each other. My favorite part of this song is the words of course and how they make you see a relationship, but my next favorite part of this song is Ruth’s voice I think it suits the feel of the song really well. The target audience is young couples who are dating or courting at the time I feel. I really enjoy this song, it puts me in a good mood every time I listen to it. It makes me hope that someday I will be able to find a relationship like the one she is singing about. I feel that it is a song that won’t really become outdated, even listening to it now I feel like it is something that could be written now. However, with it being written right now it would have new technology which would make the sound better and give it a new feel. I think it would really be fun to have someone now recreate this song I know it would be on my playlist alongside the one sung by Ruth Etting.

 The song I picked for this week was Maple Leaf Rag by Scott Joplin. I think this song has such a good feel to it, it puts you in a good mood and makes you want to go back to that era and dance. This song has a couple parts in it when it seems like they mess up while playing the piano, but it is a part of the song and I think it makes the song so much more interesting because you don't see it coming and don't expect a song to sound like that. My favorite part of this song is the part when it seems like they’re messing up but it’s a part of the song I think it is just so unlike anything else and no one expects it which makes it so fun and lively. I think they need to have more songs now that surprise you, have something happen out of the blue that you weren’t expecting, I feel like now we can expect how a song is going to go both with the music and with the lyrics. Imagine if we had songs now that threw you off in a good way, everyone would love them and they would rise to the tops of the charts.
